At the Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe pre-Tour conference, Primoz Roglic appeared very relaxed. After withdrawing from the last Giro d'Italia, the Slovenian is at the start of the Tour de France, a race he has never won and which has often left him disappointed. The Slovenian has won the Vuelta a España 4 times and the Giro d'Italia once, but in his 6 participations in the Grande Boucle, he finished second in 2020 behind Pogacar and was then forced to withdraw due to injury in the last three editions of the race. Together with Florian Lipwoitz, Roglic will try to reach the podium in Paris, having understood that winning is now impossible for him.
When asked about his role, Primoz Roglic gave a calm response, emphasizing that this Tour de France will be without pressure for him. "I don't need to name my rivals. Obviously, given how they are racing, I should mention Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard, Remco Evenepoe. But we have strong guys like Florian Lipowitz, who finished third in the Dauphiné, so we're also aiming for the Tour de France podium. As for me, I don't care much about the result. At 36, whether I win or lose, I no longer intend to risk my life. Why am I here? I'm always happy to be at the start of the Tour de France, to participate in the greatest cycling event of the year".
During the conference, questions were also asked about the route and particularly what to expect during the first week. Roglic, with his usual serenity, said that his goal will be to survive and arrive in the best possible way to the third week. "During the first week, the best thing to do is survive. I'll probably try to repeat what I did last year. The best thing is to arrive well until the end. With age, you learn certain things and look at them in a way that helps you, so in this sense, my experience will help me face the race in the best possible way".
