Extraordinary success for the 2025 edition of Enjoy Stelvio Valtellina - Passo Spluga Bike Day|FreiPass, which saw over 7,500 passages of cyclists and pedestrians from both sides, from Campodolcino on the Italian side and Splugen on the Swiss side, along the spectacular Spluga Pass climb. A never-before-recorded result, stemming from an increasingly close cross-border collaboration between tourism promotion entities and Italian and Swiss institutions, united by the desire to sustainably enhance an alpine pass of extraordinary beauty and historical importance.
During the day, motorized traffic was completely banned, allowing thousands of people to safely transit along the serpentine roads connecting Campodolcino and Splügen. An immersive experience between nature and sport, made possible by the joint commitment of local authorities, law enforcement, volunteers, and all those who contributed to the event's organization.
"The Enjoy Stelvio Valtellina - Passo Spluga bike day is not just a day of sport," comments Valchiavenna Tourism Consortium director Filippo Pighetti, "but a strong signal in favor of road safety, gentle mobility, and a new vision of tourism: more sustainable, inclusive, and environmentally respectful."
This year's extraordinary result confirms the Spluga Pass as an excellence destination in the international cycling landscape and beyond, thanks also to the growing visibility provided by events like this. The active involvement of Italian and Swiss institutions has further strengthened the route's attractiveness, creating a continuous flow of enthusiasts who, in both directions, could safely enjoy a unique experience.
"The FreiPass Spluga was a true success and demonstrated the great interest in initiatives like this," comment the Swiss colleagues. "The day couldn't have been more beautiful, an excellent way to connect people and our valleys."
This success is not just numerical: it represents a virtuous model of collaboration between territories and an important piece in promoting the entire alpine region as an excellence destination, not only for cycling tourism but for all outdoor tourism.
Another equally important event will be the "Spluga da capogiro" initiative, where the most scenic stretch of the Spluga Pass, from Campodolcino to Pianazzo, will be closed to vehicular traffic for the 6th consecutive year, every Sunday in July and August from 08:00 to 12:00.
