With a convincing sprint, Federico Profazio conquers the Lombard road championship jersey in the junior category at the Puginate finish line. Behind the Pedale Senaghese athlete, Samuel Minardi (Madignanese) placed second, and Lorenzo Invernizzi (Team S.E.R.I.O.), third. At the start of the Coppa Caduti Puginatesi – Memorial G.Figini & Angelo Moltrasio organized by Lario Scorte, there were 111 junior riders representing all Lombard teams. The athletes faced 76.8 Km divided into an 9.6 Km circuit to be covered 8 times with two not-too-steep climbs, which, combined with the intense heat, made for an initial selection.
The race was animated with many attacks. The most interesting action came in the second half of the race, when Segato, Lo Piccolo, Bertola, Milani, and Minardi broke away from the group, gaining half a minute. The breakaway seemed promising with many good teams represented at the front, but the group came back together with about 10 Km to go. The final kilometers were thrilling. Lorenzo Turati launched a strong attack from the group, engaging in a spectacular head-to-head battle. The Pedale Senaghese athlete gained and defended a handful of seconds that made him taste victory. In fact, at the entrance to the final straight, the breakaway rider was still in the lead, but behind him the sprint was launched: as mentioned, his teammate Profazio would win, making the 'wooden medal' of fourth place less bitter for Turati.
"Today we started strong with the entire team," said the new Lombard champion Federico Profazio, who received the Veloplus jersey from regional FCI councilor Debora Gatti and coach Bruno Melina. "I went on a breakaway for two laps, they caught me at the bell. When my teammate attacked on the final climb, I stayed on his wheel, recovered a bit, and then positioned myself well for the sprint and managed to win."
