Piuro will be the stage of an unforgettable event today: for the first time in history, the Tour de Suisse arrives in the province of Sondrio, with a stage ending in Valchiavenna, in front of the New Church of Borgonuovo. A unique opportunity to promote our territory.
The organizational machine is impressive: over 120 Civil Protection volunteers will ensure the safety of the arrival area. Fundamental is also the collaboration between Italian and Swiss Police, a task force coordinated with great commitment by the Prefect of Sondrio, Anna Pavone.
Decisive was the support of the Province of Sondrio, chaired by Davide Menegola, which supported the organization of the event in every phase, contributing concretely to the success of the initiative.
What will make this day special is the active involvement of the entire Piuro community: windows will be colored with Italian and Swiss flags, while the children from the parish will be protagonists in welcoming the riders at the finish line.
The program includes side events, markets, refreshment areas, entertainment, and music until midnight for the "Red Cross Night". Free shuttle buses will be available from Chiavenna, while traffic will undergo temporary modifications, particularly on SS 37 del Maloja and in the internal streets of the municipality.
The stage winner will be awarded at 6:00 PM at the foot of the Acquafraggia Waterfalls and will receive a truly unique and original trophy: a soapstone sculpture, a symbol of local craftsmanship.
This stage of the Tour de Suisse has thus been able to unite sport, institutions, and community in a great day of celebration.
"Welcoming the Tour de Suisse to Piuro represents a historic moment and great pride for our entire province. It is the first time this prestigious international cycling race has arrived in Valtellina and Valchiavenna, offering an extraordinary showcase for our territory and its landscape, cultural, and artisan excellence. I want to thank everyone who made this event possible: the Civil Protection volunteers, Italian and Swiss law enforcement, the Prefecture, and naturally the municipal administration of Piuro and its community, who have welcomed this great organizational challenge with enthusiasm and spirit of collaboration. This day of sport and celebration is concrete proof of how synergy between institutions, associations, and citizens can generate value, strengthening the sense of belonging and promoting our province internationally. To all participants, guests, and visitors, I wish you an unforgettable day, in the name of sport, safety, and sharing." Davide Menegola, President of the Province of Sondrio
