Rino De Candido, former Italian junior national coach, will climb into the team car for the first time for a major U23 Giro. He will do so with the Uc Trevigiani Energiapura Marchiol team that has chosen him as their new sports director. "Many competitors bring honor," says the Friulian coach wisely, "we will try to make an honorable showing. At the Giro, there is the cream of world cycling, meaning all the Development teams that line up their top riders. Obviously, the champion to beat is Belgian Jarno Widar, who won last year."
Regarding the stages: "There are two that will decide the Giro, which is always unpredictable among amateurs: the stage on Tuesday that arrives at Passo Maniva at 1,659 meters. First, they'll have to climb the Passo dei Tre Termini. Then on Saturday, there's the decisive stage that reaches Prato Nevoso: the athletes will have to climb three mountain grand prix first. And the final stage will also be challenging for the overall contenders. In short, there's something for everyone."
Uc Trevigiani Energiapura Marchiol will race with Tommaso Bambagioni, Riccardo Fabbro, Luca Fraticelli, Lorenzo Montanari, and Riccardo Perani.
As junior national coach, Rino De Candido has won extensively on road and track: among many, we'll mention the world road championship in 1999 in Verona with Veronese Damiano Cunego, the world championships in 2006 and 2007 with Tuscan Diego Ulissi, precious medals with Antonio Bucciero, Daniele Ratto, Elia Favilli, Mattia Cattaneo (ex Trevigiani), Luca Rastelli, Michele Gazzoli, Alessandro Fancellu, and Alessio Martinelli. He also won a world time trial championship with Antonio Tiberi in 2019, silver with Antonio Puppio in 2017, and bronze in 2018 with Andrea Piccolo.
Three victories by his riders in European road championships: Luca Wackermann in 2009, Edoardo Affini in 2014, and Michele Gazzoli in 2017. Then bronze in 2012 with Davide Ballerini (ex Trevigiani) and Andrea Piccolo in 2019. Two European time trial titles: in 2011 with Andrea Bettiol and in 2019 with Andrea Piccolo, bronzes in 2018 with Antonio Tiberi and in 2020 with Lorenzo Milesi.
President Ettore Renato Barzi, together with the entire Board of Directors, welcomed De Candido's arrival at the historic team headquarters in Porta San Tomaso, in the heart of Treviso: "We welcome Rino, a respected professional and a man of great human and technical value. The constant support of project manager Luciano Marton, Giuseppe Lorenzetto, the two sports directors Mirco Lorenzetto and Mauro Busato, and the entire technical staff will surely be a valid help for Rino to integrate immediately into our team. We are certain that he will give new momentum to our sports project, maintaining the tradition and spirit of Uc Trevigiani". And today begins the new adventure for Rino De Candido.
