Remco Evenepoel dominated the fourth stage of the Dauphine, the 177 km time trial from Charmes-sur-Rhône to Saint-Péray. And up to this point, we are in the realm of logical prediction, but the surprises come from the result and the gaps made by his great rivals: the Olympic and world champion of the specialty won by recording a time of 20'50" pedaling at an average of 50.1 kmh in a trial that also included a challenging climb.
Jonas Vingegaard finished in second place with a delay of 21 seconds, equally divided between the first and second parts of the race. Far, very far behind was Tadej Pogacar, who finished with a delay of 49 seconds, with thirty of those accumulated in the first part, which also included the climb. The Slovenian also conceded 11 seconds to Matteo Jorgenson, the number 2 of Visma Lease a Bike, all accumulated in the second part since they were practically level at the intermediate time.
Behind the big names, good performances by German Florian Lipowitz of Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe and Mathieu Van der Poel of Alpecin Deceuninck, who finished in that order.
To complete his great day, Evenepoel also conquered the leader's jersey and is preparing to face the three mountain stages scheduled for the weekend in a privileged position. And the Belgian celebrates with the blue jersey and cap the 1000th victory of Soudal Quick Step, with a dedication to Patrick Lefevere.
