Everything is ready for the Giro Next Gen, the great June event that sees the best of world-level amateur cycling at the start. The appointment is from the 15th to the 22nd, starting from Rho and finishing in Pinerolo after 1029 kilometers distributed over 8 stages. June is not only Giro Next Gen, but also other races, specifically the Trofeo Città di Empoli on June 15, and Montalbano on the 16th. Let's start with the pink race that has been organized by RCS Sport for 2 years.
The first words go to Team Manager Antonio Bevilacqua who in recent weeks has officially confirmed the team's move to the Professional category for 2026. "We are preparing to live one of the most important moments of our season. In recent years, we have performed well with stage victories and jersey conquests. In 2021, we won the race with Juan Ayuso. However, these are memories, and as per our DNA, we look ahead and aim to obtain new satisfactions. We have worked at our best, investing in high-altitude training and providing the guys with the best we could offer. We are calm and ready for the challenge".
The technical aspect is explained by DSs Gianluca Valoti and Davide Martinelli. "We had to make difficult choices in our selection, leaving out Manuel Oioli, who is a valid rider. We are very sorry for a guy who deserves and has approached the entire pre-Giro preparation with maximum commitment. This year, the teams are only 5-strong, and the technical choice penalized him".
SELECTED RIDERS FOR THE NEXT GEN: Lorenzo Masciarelli, Lorenzo Nespoli, Pavel Novak, Cesare Chesini, Zsombor Tamás Takács.
Here are their statements between expectations and emotions.
Masciarelli: "The first part of the season has gone well, and the GP della Liberazione success has given me greater confidence in my abilities. This is my first Giro, and I want to discover my limits".
The most excited of all is Hungarian Takacs Tzombor: "The call-up is an unexpected result. Being at the Giro makes me happy. It will be a great experience for all of us. I want to help the team in the flat stages. I believe everything has gone well here, and I didn't expect such a good 2025. I thought I would improve, but not this much. I have reached an excellent level, I recover well and quickly from efforts".
Pavel Novak: "For me, it will be a Giro to discover. I'm dealing with some allergic conditions and hope they won't penalize me. I have worked profitably, and the season has been good so far. To be at my best here, this winter I even underwent a nose operation to improve my breathing. Last year's 5th place is great motivation, but not all seasons are the same, so we start over with new ambitions".
Nespoli: "About my role in the team, we'll see after the 3rd stage how I'm doing. If I'm with the leaders, I'll aim for the classification; otherwise, we'll adapt. My 2025 started well from a health perspective. I know that in 2024 I was the best climber, a result that gave me awareness of my potential. Being here in 2025 was not taken for granted because we have a great group that goes strong, and already passing the selection is a good result. I've studied the stages, but I don't know which one to target yet. The one near my home (Cantù) is not suitable for my characteristics. Too bad".
Chesini: "It's my second Giro. In 2024, where I finished 17th overall and 4th among Italians. It was a beautiful experience. This year, I haven't yet fully expressed my potential. I had prepared April well, then due to bad luck and illness, it didn't go as I wanted. I'm at the start after 3 weeks at altitude. I trained on long climbs and expect to do well".
Leading the team in the race are Davide Martinelli and Gianluca Valoti. Direction: Antonio Bevilacqua, Rossella Dileo. Mechanics: Lorenzo Capitanio and Hodi Andras Gabor, masseurs, Paolo Vairo and Eros Colombo, bus driver, Simone Golfrè, Lisa Romele, nutritionist, Jacopo Perani, videomaker, Isabella Campagne, social.
OTHER RACES: The other competitive activity continues in Empoli, led by Flavio Miozzo in the race: Ambrosini, Bagatin, Balogh, Makray, Oioli. Vesco. The race is on the 14th. On the 15th, instead, in Montalbano with Miozzo still in the team car: Ambrosini, Bagatin, Makray, Oioli, Vas, Vesco.
