Isaac Del Toro is back stronger than ever, conquering the stage with a finish in Bormio. In the finale, the Mexican rider got rid of Romain Bardet and Richard Carapaz, arriving alone at the finish line, with the Frenchman second and the Ecuadorian third.
"As far as I'm concerned, I know I must always move forward, never give up and always commit myself - Del Toro explained - Because difficult days come for everyone, and anyone can have a tough time. I just need to continue having more morale and never give up, because this sport is always super difficult. What happened to me yesterday is normal: I just need to continue learning quickly and listen to the team".
In yesterday's stage in San Valentino, the pink jersey crossed the finish line 2'46" behind winner Scaroni, managing to contain his time loss in the general classification from Carapaz and Yates who attacked him.
"I think it was a pretty tough day for everyone and to be honest, I had never found myself in a situation like this before and I definitely arrived with nothing left. I don't think I gave my maximum, but I'm not complaining. It's not an excuse, I give everything and I'm super happy to have had that day because it made me better".
Waiting for Del Toro at the finish line were his family, including his mother, girlfriend, and brother: to greet them, the Mexican crossed the line with a bow, an idea jokingly born from his brother during the Milano-Torino last March.
"That gesture is my way of thanking all the people who follow me. The idea came from my brother after Milano-Torino because I had a broken jersey zipper. There are many people supporting me, shouting my name, and it's such a special feeling because I don't feel so special, but when I pass through towns and cities, it's incredible and so I wanted to say thank you to everyone".
Carapaz again today demonstrated he is the most dangerous rider. In the general classification, he is second at 41" from the pink jersey, and behind him, with a 10" gap, is Yates.
"We must manage the upcoming stages, and yes, Carapaz is a dangerous rider. I must not complain too much and not have too much time to think, and I want to think only about moving forward to the end. But with the team, we're not just thinking about Carapaz and we know we must not let any of the classification riders go".
