Vittoria Bussi has recently set new world records in the Hour and 4 km and written important pages for cycling, but did not receive the visibility she expected, leading her to vent on social media with this post that we are republishing in full.
To all the journalists who are apologizing to me these days because my achievement "was not allowed more space", because the piece was cut to 9 lines instead of 15, because the Giro is absorbing all your energy and time. Or other similar nonsense.
Well, apologize to the Italians, not to me. You are depriving them of the joy of having all 4 records at home, both hour and pursuit, both male and female. Even though there is only one velodrome in Italy.
Apologize to the many young athletes who are afraid they cannot achieve great things because they don't have a team behind them. Great things can be done anyway. Or to workers in any field. Great things can be done alone, or almost.
Apologize to those who think they don't have enough money to organize a big event. You can organize it, maybe without TV coverage, but you can do it.
Apologize to teenagers who have to choose between sports and education because society still says this. You can do both. And do them well.
Apologize to women, because we really don't deserve this. Because it just doesn't make sense. It reeks of the Middle Ages and backwardness. And if I tell you that I had my period in 2023 when I beat 50km, don't be ashamed but write it because it's precisely through menstruation that we give life.
I never did this for visibility, so don't apologize to me. In fact, maybe read my story before asking me questions.
