It was meant to be an extraordinary moment, and it was: the evening "We Emerged to See the Stars Again," at the foot of the Bismantova Rock in Dante Square, was a unique blend of literature, astronomical observations, and music. And providing a unique, spectacular backdrop was the Bismantova Rock, illuminated in various colors.
The literary part was entrusted to Emanuele Ferrari, who not only read and interpreted some passages from the fourth canto of the Divine Comedy, which mentions Bismantova, but also highlighted how the Rock itself is a setting that Dante uses as an example for his Purgatory. The arduous ascent described by the Supreme Poet, climbing through cracks along a mountain, is very close to what one can experience at Bismantova. The fourth canto of Purgatory is also the one in which Dante describes the celestial vault and how its orientation is different from what he saw before beginning his journey.
Star observation was the other element on which the evening was developed: Pierluigi Giacobazzi, a scientific communicator, astrophotographer, and environmental guide, former president of the "Experimental Center for Astronomy Education - CeSda" and director of the Civic Planetarium "Francesco Martino" in Modena, founder of the La Casa delle Stelle association operating in Castelnovo and the Apennines, illustrated the constellations visible at Bismantova in the spring sky, the North Star and the Big Dipper, also recounting the stories from Greek mythology associated with them. He also emphasized how Bismantova is a privileged location for stargazing. The music of the Alighieri Ensemble, composed of Cristina Zambelli and Fabio Codeluppi on trumpets, Dimer Maccaferri on horn, Valentino Spaggiari on trombone, and Gianluigi Paganelli on tuba, punctuated the presentations. And between moments of the evening, darkness alternated to better see the starry sky, and lights on the Rock, starting from pink, then blue, green, white light, with the rock putting on a show at every moment, thanks to ProMusic's equipment, drawing great applause from the numerous participants.
