With a timid attack just before the red triangle and a more decisive move 800 meters from the finish line, the red jersey Demi Vollering broke away solo towards the Alto de Cotobello finish line and crossed it with raised arms, celebrating her second consecutive victory in the general classification of the Vuelta Espana Femenina. Behind the Dutch rider from FDJ Suez, after 152 kilometers of the stage, Marlen Reusser finished second at 11" and Anna van der Breggen third with a deficit of 25". The Movistar captain and the SD Worx Protime captain also finish in the same order in the final general classification.
Following in the time-based ranking are: the French riders Cédrine Kerbaol (EF Education-Oatly) and Juliette Labous (FDJ - SUEZ), New Zealander Niamh Fisher-Black (Lidl - Trek) and Italian Monica Trinca Colonel (Liv AlUla Jayco) who finishes the Vuelta in seventh position at 4'07" from Vollering.
THE STAGE - In the first part of the stage, several athletes attacked, including the Italians Elisa Valtulini (BePink - Imatra – Bongioanni) and Silvia Zanardi (Human Power), Polish rider Agnieszka Skalniak-Sójka (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto) and Dutch rider Femke de Vries (Team Visma | Lease a Bike). The latter two attacked and led the race together for many kilometers. 40 kilometers from the finish line, approaching the GPM of Alto de la Colladiella, Skalniak-Sójka was caught by the classification riders who, shortly after, under the push of Monica Trinca Colonel, also rejoined Femke de Vries.
On the descent, Mavi García (Liv AlUla Jayco) and the climbing leader Évita Muzic (FDJ – SUEZ) forced the pace. The Spanish and French riders, pedaling quickly under the rain, quickly gained about a minute, forcing Anna van der Breggen's SD Worx – Protime (second in the classification at 45" from Vollering, ed.) to chase.
The attackers' action concluded on the slopes of Alto de Cotobello, 8 kilometers from the finish line, when the small group of the best, consisting of about twenty athletes, regrouped. Marion Bunel (Team Visma | Lease) and Évita Muzic (FDJ – SUEZ) tried to attack, but it was Van der Breggen's steady rhythm that selected the group.
With 4 kilometers to go, the race leaders were Anna van der Breggen, Demi Vollering, Cédrine Kerbaol, and Marlen Reusser, with Monica Trinca Colonel not far behind. Approaching the red triangle, the red jersey Demi Vollering attempted an attack followed by a new acceleration that allowed her to secure the final victory.
