AT THE TOUR OF THE ALPS, THERE'S MORE THAN JUST THE RACE

PROFESSIONALS | 17/04/2025 | 08:08

Just five days to go and the Tour of the Alps 2025 will begin. The euro-regional cycling event organized by GS Alto Garda is preparing to live, from April 21 to 25, a 48th edition that promises to be electrifying and packed with content. A great spectacle on the roads of the Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino Euregio, which as always will aim to involve and embrace not only cycling enthusiasts, but also the populations of the territories and countries traversed, and at the same time, the large cycling community that will follow the race on TV, thanks to live broadcast in over 100 countries.

The Tour of the Alps is a bridge between cultures, a symbol of unity in a historical moment when this takes on an even deeper meaning. In its essence, the Tour of the Alps – just like cycling – is born to be among people, to breathe the warmth of communities and transform each stage into a collective celebration, where sport becomes sharing.

Sunday, April 20, the eve of the event will already be in the spirit of the public with entertainment by Radio Viva FM, radio partner of #TotA, and a day in San Lorenzo Dorsino entirely dedicated to local music and flavors that will culminate with the team presentation, scheduled from 5:00 PM at the Municipal Theater. Following, also at the theater, the presentation of the book "Close to the Clouds" with Luca Gregorio, Moreno Moser and Riccardo Magrini connecting.

On Monday, April 21, the opening stage will renew the union between Tour of the Alps and Aquila Basket Trento, already celebrated during the "Ride&Dunk" initiative at "Il T Quotidiano Arena" in Trento. This time, the giants of the Serie A team will return the visit, also offering the youngest the opportunity to try basketball, guided by Aquila Basket technicians, while waiting for the arrival of the debut stage in San Lorenzo Dorsino. But in the first stage location, there will also be plenty of pedaling: in the morning, there will be a ride with the champion, in the company of Daniel Oss, while the youngest will be protagonists of the "Children's Sprint".

In Mezzolombardo, Tuesday morning, April 22 will open in the spirit of remembrance and one of the most pressing themes for the present and future of cycling at all levels, that of safety. On this occasion, the Tour of the Alps will remember Sara Piffer, the young Trentino athlete from Palù di Giovo who passed away last January in Mezzolombardo, on her training roads, at the age of 19. A painful but important reminder of a theme to which the Tour of the Alps has always dedicated great energy, and which will see the Michele Scarponi Foundation alongside the race, another name whose story is deeply linked to #TotA.

On Tuesday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 23 in Vipiteno, local Sports High School students will play the role of reporters, trying their hand at interviews with Tour of the Alps champions. In San Candido, the public will await the arrival of the third stage with music and entertainment and a special exhibition of Heroic Bikes in Magistrato Square.

With the arrival of #TotA in Tyrol, on Thursday, April 24, space for celebrations of local athlete Felix Gall, one of the great favorites of this edition, with an asphalt drawing to be unveiled in the Marktplatz of Sillian, where the exhibition of freerider Gabriel Widmer will also take place.

In Lienz, the Euregio will be the great protagonist, gathering over 150 children in a day of activities, on and off bikes, in the name of borderless alliance and the values that have characterized the Tour of the Alps project from its origins.

The conclusion will also be in the spirit of the Bike Experience promoted by Infront, which this year will see participants engaged in an exclusive three-day event organized between South Tyrol and Osttirol from April 24 to 26. Protagonists of this extensive side events program will naturally also be Daniel Oss and Lukas Pöstlberger, ambassadors of #TotA 2025.

The complete calendar of collateral events is available at tourofthealps.eu.

AT #TOTA, FUN IS ALSO VIRTUAL

Even those who cannot be on the roads of the Euregio from April 21 to 25 will have the opportunity to get involved in the #TotA challenge, not only by following the race on television but by getting involved firsthand.

Precisely on Monday, April 21, the day of the 2025 edition's start, until June 1st, the #LiveUphill challenge returns to the Rouvy platform, the special virtual cycling challenge promoted in collaboration with Endu that will allow the global community to challenge themselves on the last kilometers of the five stages directly from home, with their smart trainers. For all those who complete the five routes, there will be the opportunity to win special Tour of the Alps branded prizes.

This year, moreover, another important community has landed among the Tour of the Alps partners: that of FantaCycling, the popular 'fantasy cycling' application with thousands of enthusiasts worldwide. On the occasion of Tour of the Alps, FantaCycling has launched a special league free for all platform subscribers: winners will be awarded exclusive #TotA prizes.

Additionally, FantaCycling will go live every day with its community on Youtube and Twitch directly from the Tour of the Alps roads, bringing a unique visual angle and opening the race narrative to a passionate and growing community.

"Over the years – emphasizes the President of GS Alto Garda, Giacomo Santini – the territories hosting the Tour of the Alps, and particularly the stage cities, increasingly recognize themselves in the event's values, actively contributing to creating a unique atmosphere. It is thanks to this involvement that our project comes to life in all its fullness: an event that celebrates cycling as a popular sport, rooted in the fabric of communities and capable of uniting landscapes, people, and cultures."
