With a stunning solo action in the last 30 km of the race, the Italian champion Elisa Longo Borghini claimed a great victory at Dwars door Vlaanderen, her fiftieth professional career win.
An exceptional performance by the UAE Team ADQ leader who first had her teammates work and then single-handedly caught up with a leading pair (Kraak and Reusser) and then, with great tenacity and determination, rode alone to the finish line, reaching it with a 29-second advantage over the first chasing group, which was settled in a sprint by world champion Lotte Kopecky.
This triumph marks her 50th victory as a professional, a result that once again confirms her class and great form just days before the Tour of Flanders, which she will try to win for the third time next Sunday.
Elisa Longo Borghini stated: "It was a victory I absolutely wanted to achieve. We've had many problems in this recent period. With my teammate Silvia Persico who injured a rib, Karlijn Swinkels who had a physical issue in recent days, and we started with just five riders yesterday. However, my teammates were truly great. Febe Jooris and Hannah Kunz supported me from the beginning, along with Tereza Neumanova, and then in the finale, Sofia Bertizzolo gave me great help by positioning me perfectly on the Eikenberg where I could attack, and then I pushed straight through and believed in the victory. Today I wanted to win because I wanted to show everyone that despite the various challenges we've faced, we are a strong team, a united team, and we are true athletes."
