While waiting for the great cycling season to kick into high gear, here are some recap highlights from 2024. Tadej Pogacar was the best in every aspect, as confirmed by the data. Overall, he achieved 25 victories considering all UCI Men's Elite races (of which 23 World Tour) and secured 32 podium placements among the top three (of which 30 World Tour).
The Slovenian champion in the past season won 3 stage races, winning the Volta Catalunya and then achieving the historic Giro d'Italia - Tour de France double. In terms of prestige, no one else managed to do the same, but as a statistical curiosity, it's interesting to note that four other cyclists in 2024 won 3 UCI stage races (albeit at a significantly lower level): the Danes Vingegaard and Pedersen, the New Zealander Gate, and the Brit Blackmore.
Pogacar also dominated the road world championship and some top classics (Strade Bianche, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, GP Montreal, Giro dell'Emilia, and Giro di Lombardia), but the cyclist with the most successes in 2024 in one-day UCI races was Marc Hirschi with 7 wins, including the Clasica de San Sebastian. In time trials, the number one was Remco Evenepoel with 5 triumphs (including Olympics and World Championships).
In Italy, Jonathan Milan topped the charts with 11 victories (of which 7 World Tour) and 19 podiums (of which 14 World Tour), ahead of Matteo Malucelli who, albeit in different latitudes, conquered 10 successes and 19 podiums. Belgium leads with 118 total victories, of which 39 World Tour.
