One year after concluding her professional career, Lizzie Deignan returns to the world of cycling in a prominent role. The 37-year-old from Yorkshire has joined the technical staff of the British Cycling Federation and will support Matt Brammeier, Technical Commissioner of the road national teams, on the path towards the next Olympic Games in Los Angeles 2028.
With over fifteen years in the top category of world professional cycling, Deignan can boast extensive experience and a first-class sporting resume highlighted by the world title won in 2015 in Richmond ahead of Anna van der Breggen, plus two consecutive editions of the Trofeo Binda (2015, 2016), Le Strade Bianche (2016), the Tour of Flanders (2016), Liège-Bastogne-Liège (2020) and Paris-Roubaix (2021).
"Having Lizzie on our staff is a major coup," said Matt Brammeier. "Having retired recently, she has extensive knowledge of the group, both British athletes and our rivals. She knows how we work and can support the athletes in the best way possible ahead of competition."
Speaking further about Deignan, the Technical Commissioner added: "She is a true legend of the sport and has inspired some of our most promising young riders, so working alongside her will be a real joy for them."
Lizzie Deignan, for her part, stated: "I'm excited about the opportunity to work with a group of strong and talented athletes. It's been more than a decade since my world title, so I believe it's time to explore our potential and hunt for more rainbow jerseys. My goal is to help every cyclist reach their maximum potential."
