Belgium will present itself at the elite women's road world championship on Saturday without one of its riders. National champion Justine Ghekiere is forced to withdraw due to the aftermath of a fall. The Belgian Cycling Federation has therefore updated its list of athletes, indicating that the 29-year-old athlete from Izegem, who on paper would have been the team's lead rider given the already planned absence of Lotte Kopecky, will not race in Kigali and will not be replaced.
The Belgian athletes who will tackle the 164 kilometers of the world championship will be: Marthe Goossens, Marieke Meert, Julie Van De Velde, and Margot Vanpachtenbeke.
Despite Remco Evenepoel's gold medal in the time trial, the Rwandan championship is causing some headaches for the national team managers: recall that Jarno Widar could not participate in the individual time trial due to a gluteal injury, while Tiesj Benoot, initially called up for the men's road race, will be replaced by Louis Vervaeke after testing positive for Covid.
