The success in the third edition of the Egmont Cycling Race is very special for Martina Alzini, and the 28-year-old Italian sprinter immediately confirms this when she approaches the microphones. "I've just returned to racing after an injury that forced me to stop for two and a half months following a crash with the national team, and I have no words to describe what I'm feeling right now. I would like to thank Team Cofidis because they followed me in the best possible way during my recovery, without putting pressure on me to return to racing and always putting my health first," Martina said.
And further: "Today the team's objective was to win, and several of my teammates were in great form coming from the Tour de France. Unfortunately, Amalie Dideriksen was involved in a crash (she finished 72nd at the finish line) and it was she who told me to try the sprint. Once again, I thank her and all my teammates for what they did; they guided me in an incredible way, and if I won, the credit goes to them and to the wonderful group that is like a big family to me."
Before climbing onto the podium, Martina Alzini asked for a few more seconds to share a special thought: "This success is also for Samuele Privitera, who left us after a terrible crash. I dedicate this success to his family and especially to his girlfriend Vittoria (Grassi, ed.) who raced with us today. For me, Vittoria is an example," the Cofidis athlete concluded.
