Will we still see Wagner - Bazin WB in the peloton in 2026? This is the question circulating between France and Belgium these days. Born last year from the merger between Bingoal WB and the French Continental team Wagner, the team based in Wallonia is struggling to achieve the expected results: the only victory so far dates back to January 26, when Quentin Bezza won the time trial of the Tour of Sharjah. The team's record also includes the third place obtained by Davide Persico in the seventh stage of the Tour of Turkiye and a few top10 placements.
Apparently not enough to satisfy the ambitions of patron Philippe Wagner who, as colleagues at L'Est, wrote, stated: "When you invest almost a million euros in a team, you have the right to expect results, not just placements" also hinting at not wanting to relive the same situation next year.
Harsh words from the French manager, which leave room for doubts and questions about the future of the Team that also includes Marco Tizza, Giacomo Villa and coach Alessandro Spezialetti.
The future of other Belgian teams is also unclear. If rumors of a merger between Lotto and Intermarché are becoming increasingly persistent , the medium to long-term plans of Flanders Baloise do not seem so defined: the Flemish government has decided and communicated that 2026 will be the last season in which it will support the team led by General Manager Christophe Sercu and coach Hans De Clercq. The Belgian sports director himself gave an interview to Directvelo in which he states: "The intention is to try to continue in 2027, but I don't have a crystal ball. Everything starts with raising money. Until we find something, we don't want to give false hope, but for now nothing changes, the government supports us until 2026".
And further: "It's not easy for anyone. Look at Lotto and Intermarché working on a merger or Alpecin looking for a co-sponsor. As for us, we think there are possibilities and we want to try to continue, we believe in it otherwise we would have already stopped. At the moment, we imagine several options but always as a Professional team. Obviously, we will have to understand what Baloise will do, their contract also expires at the end of 2026," concludes De Clercq.
With these premises, it seems that the next few months will be very important for several Belgian teams.
