CHINA 2017. LIAM BERTAZZO, TAPPA E MAGLIA A YUNZU

Liam Bertazzo (Wilier Triestina) ha vinto la seconda tappa del Tour of China I 2017 con partenza da Dazhai e arrivo a Yunzu dopo 197 km dopo tre salite di cui una di prima categoria fino a 1629 m. Seconda posizione per Siarhei Papok e terza per Cameron Bayly.

Dopo l’interminabile trasferimento dalla prima frazione, con 800 km per spostarsi dalla Mongolia Interiore verso sud, percorsi in anche più di 14 ore in condizioni disagevoli per gli atleti (ahi noi, una prerogativa di questa corsa), il Tour of China è ripartito con una bella frazione mossa.

Si è partiti dal villaggio di Dazhai, a poca distanza dalla città di Jinzhong, oltre 3 milioni di abitanti distribuiti nel mezzo della provincia di Shanxi. Grande entusiasmo, come tradizione, e per i corridori che sono stati accolti da danze tradizionali e esibizione di arti locali come quella della lavorazione artistica della carta. Inoltre, è zona rinomata per la produzione di liquori.

Gli scatti non si sono fatti attendere troppo, è stato un continuo susseguirsi di tentativi che ha portato alla formazione di un folto gruppo che è rimasto allo scoperto per 120 km.

Dopo aver toccato la località di Xiyang a nord, la corsa ha preso nuovamente la direzione sud per transitare a Hesun (con uno sprint volante) e prendere la via della salita di prima categoria di Qiao a quota 1629 metri sul livello del mare. Secondo sprint volante a Zuoquan (prima Liao, nome cambiato in onore del generale Suo Quan) per affrontare la salita di terza categoria, che in realtà è il culmine del ponte Sang Jia Gou a quota 1207 metri. Anche questa erta è stata fatta a tutta per poi scendere di 200 metri di dislivello fino al traguardo posto 10 km dopo, a Yunzu.

Ottima tattica per la Wilier Triestina che si è giocata al meglio le proprie carte con Cecchin che è scattato una prima volta nell'ultimo km portandosi dietro tutti gli avversari: una volta aperta la strada, Bertazzo è partito ai -600m tenendo duro fino in fondo.

After the long transfer from Weichang, 800 km from the edge of Inner Mongolia to the south in more than 14 hours in difficult conditions for the riders, the TOC restarted with an up and down stage.

The km 0 was in Dazhai, near the city of Jinzhong, over 3 million people in the Shanxi province. The crowd welcomed the athletes with big enthusiasm and showed to the guests the tradition of the area, from the traditional dances to the paper craft art. It was also possible to taste the local production of spirit.

After passing from Xiyang in the north, the race came back to south touching Hesun with a intermediate sprint and then started to climb the first category Qiao Mountain until 1629 m. The second intermediate sprint was at Zuoquan (they changed the name from Liao city, in honor of general Suo Quando) and then it was time for the last climb (3rd category) at the top of the Sang Jia Got bridge at 1207 m. The finish line was at Yunzhuhu, 10 km later, near to 1000 m on the sea level mark.

Here is the final km, told directly by the winner: «We were in a small group of 20 riders, before our breakaway there was a bigger group, but the peloton succeed to catch them at 120km. In the last km, my team-mate Cecchin tried to attack, and everybody went after him, so the road was open and I attack too. It was at 600 meters to go and I kept pushing until, finally, I won».

There is also a special dedication for this victory: «It’s for my family, my brother and my girlfriend who always supported me, even in the bad times. And I especially thanks my team because they always gave me everything I need to race at my best».
