The official route for the Giro d'Italia Women 2027 was presented today at the Sala Sinopoli of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome, organized for the fourth consecutive year by RCS Sport.
The start is scheduled for Saturday, May 29 from Viareggio, while the grand finale will be Sunday, June 6 with the Mont Blanc Stage, after nine stages for a total of 1,132 kilometers and 17,450 meters of elevation gain. Two summit finishes are scheduled: the first in the fourth stage, from Credaro to Passo della Presolana, the second in the sixth, from Bergamo to Madesimo-Valle Spluga. Completing the decisive appointments will be the Valdigne Tudor ITT time trial climb and the concluding stage, entirely in Valle d'Aosta, called the Mont Blanc Stage.
The presentation was conducted by Pierluigi Pardo and Cristina Fantoni, with Elena Cecchini, Giacomo Nizzolo and Moreno Moser illustrating the technical aspects of the route. The event was attended by numerous representatives from the world of sports, entertainment, institutions and partner companies of the Corsa Rosa.
Alessandro Onorato, Assessor for Major Events, Sports, Tourism and Fashion of Rome Capitale, hosted the event. Also present were the heads of the RCS Group: Urbano Cairo, President of RCS MediaGroup; Paolo Bellino, Chief Executive Officer of RCS Sports & Events; Luca Guercilena, Chief Operating Officer & Cycling Director of RCS Sports & Events; Matteo Mursia, Chief Revenue Officer of RCS Sports & Events; and Stefano Barigelli, Director of La Gazzetta dello Sport.
THE ROUTE
Nine stages, 1,132 kilometers and 17,450 meters of elevation gain. The Giro d'Italia Women 2027 offers a complete and selective route, capable of alternating opportunities for sprinters, challenging stages and major mountain appointments. From Tuscany to Liguria, passing through the Po Valley, up to the Alpine climbs between Lombardy and Valle d'Aosta, the Corsa Rosa will unfold from May 29 to June 6.
The first stage, with start and finish in Viareggio, will immediately present some pitfalls for sprinters: the four passages over the Pitoro climb could favor a selective race. The second stage, from Massa to Genoa, will offer a challenging route with over 2,000 meters of elevation gain, before the stage from Cogorno to Viadana, the longest of the edition with its 171 kilometers and an opportunity on paper favorable for fast wheels.
The first major mountain appointment will arrive in the fourth stage, from Credaro to Passo della Presolana. With 131 kilometers and 3,500 meters of elevation gain, the Bergamo stage will represent an important test for those aspiring to the Maglia Rosa. The following day, the Cassano d'Adda circuit will offer sprinters a new opportunity before entering the most demanding phase of the race.
The sixth stage, from Bergamo to Madesimo-Passo dello Spluga, will take the peloton over Passo San Marco, the Cima Alfonsina Strada of this edition, for a stage of 137 kilometers and 3,550 meters of elevation gain. Two Mountain Grand Prix are scheduled along the route, which will culminate with a finish at altitude at 1,535 meters.
The following day, the entirely Lombard stage from Carugate to Rho, characterized by a predominantly flat profile, will represent the last opportunity for sprinters.
The concluding weekend will be decisive for the general classification. Saturday, June 5 features the Valdigne Tudor ITT, an 11-kilometer time trial climb with 650 meters of elevation gain: a race against the clock that could reshape the standings on the eve of the final stage.
Sunday, June 6, the Mont Blanc Stage will close the Giro d'Italia Women 2027 with a stage of 132 kilometers and 3,950 meters of elevation gain. A major Alpine stage that will partially retrace the route tackled by the men's Giro d'Italia in 2019. It will be the last great opportunity for climbers to attack and contend for the Maglia Rosa.
