Once again Elisa Longo Borghini confirms herself as a fighting champion who never gives up. After finishing third at the Canadian World Championships, the Italian captain concluded the continental championship in Slovenia just short of the podium and, after completing the 130 kilometers of racing, presented herself to journalists to comment on the fourth place she achieved at the finish line in Šenčur.
"I'm a bit disappointed with the result. A small mistake cost me the fight for the medals" said Longo Borghini. She then explained: "I would have liked to take the last corner in second position but Kasia Niewiadoma slipped and I also lost my ideal line. Nobody is at fault, just my mistake".
In a race long controlled by the Netherlands national team, Elisa nonetheless tried to attack and, responding to the question, stated: "The first lap of the circuit was relatively easy, then I tried to attack with one of my accelerations but I realized I couldn't go beyond my limits. The Netherlands was very strong and with its great champions raced very well, especially in managing the climbs".
In closing, Longo Borghini summed up the two recent commitments with the Italian national team: "Considering the world bronze from a week ago, I think I had an excellent end to the season. I've been racing at a high level essentially since the Tour, also going through the Giro, where I wasn't at my best. So I'd say I can be happy"
