One of the most experienced technicians in Italian women's cycling and a reality that has been operating in the youth sector for years, committed to building the future of girls who choose cycling: Giuseppe Lanzoni will be the new Technical Director of Horizons Cycling Club.
Lanzoni has behind him a very long career alongside professionals, and his figure represents a resource of the highest technical and human value, ideal for transmitting experience, passion and winning mentality to all the athletes and staff.
"We are delighted to welcome Giuseppe," comments Marino Ongarato. "Beyond being a great friend, Giuseppe is an extraordinary professional. His presence and his skills will give a strong boost to our project, transferring enthusiasm and balance to the entire group in view of the upcoming seasons."
With women's cycling in constant evolution and increasingly competitive rhythms, Lanzoni's figure will be central in directing the athletic, tactical and psychological growth of the girls, with his gaze already projected towards the international challenges of 2027. To discover his vision and delve into this new chapter, we asked him a few questions.
Giuseppe, what convinced you to accept the role of Technical Director of Horizons Cycling Club?
«First of all, I found a motivated and serious person like Marino Ongarato, endowed with tremendous enthusiasm. We both share a deep passion for cycling and this has bound us in immediate mutual respect».
What will your responsibilities be within the team?
«I would like to transmit, through the experience gained over many years in this sport, the right motivations to both the athletes and the entire staff».
In your opinion, what are the aspects that will need to be worked on the most?
«Making the girls understand our objectives, which are both sporting and image-related. We need to explain to them that we are living years of great growth for the entire women's cycling movement: there will be fighting, suffering and joy, but we must do it always together, transmitting a strong image of unity».
You have accumulated so much experience in cycling, including 3 years as DS at UAE: what do you think are the most useful skills for the Horizons CC project?
«In cycling there is always something to learn, it is a sport in constant evolution where the teamwork of the entire staff has fundamental importance. Personally, I really enjoy working on the psychological side of the athlete, to help her bring out the best in herself».
What are the objectives you would like to achieve in the first year?
«As I mentioned, I want to see girls united, who support and respect each other, without jealousy or discord. Our motto must be 'I for you, you for me': it is only this way that we emerge, in sport as in life».
If you had to send a message to the athletes, staff, sponsors and those who support Horizons towards 2027, what would it be?
«All of us, whatever our role in the team, do this because we are deeply passionate about cycling. We must be proud to wear this jersey and to represent our sponsors, without whom we would go nowhere. We have an important and stimulating international calendar ahead of us for the growth of the entire team: we must grow in conviction and maintain constant determination, without getting carried away in positive moments or becoming discouraged in difficult ones. Always believe in it, never give up!».
