After the silvers of Filippo Ganna and Nicolas Milesi in the elite and Under 23 individual time trials, Italy's first gold arrives at the 2026 Montreal World Road Championships. It was conquered by Mattia Cattaneo, Filippo Ganna, Matteo Sobrero, Vittoria Guazzini, Elisa Longo Borghini (who became today the most present Italian athlete ever at the Worlds) and Monica Trinca Colonel who, with a combined time of 51'32" at an average speed of 47.2 km/h, won the mixed team time trial ahead of France (silver) and Switzerland (bronze).

Fourth place, and considerable disappointment, for the defending champions Australia who, fading in the final section, slipped off the podium, missing that appointment with a fourth medal in the format that instead, after two bronzes (in 2024 and 2021) and one silver (in 2022), did not escape the Italian selection which, apart from the first intermediate checkpoint after 6 kilometers, recorded the best time at every timing point.

Italy thus, awaiting the junior time trials scheduled for this evening, has momentarily jumped to the top of the medal standings of the Canadian world championship and will have this evening at least one reason to celebrate a rainbow week that has already taken on, and could take on even more, a memorable turn.

Both France (second thanks to the efforts of Bruno Armirail, Rémi Cavagna, Jordan Labrosse, Juliette Berthet, Marion Borras and Cédrine Kerbaol) and Switzerland (led to the podium by Stefan Bissegger, Stefan Küng, Mauro Schmid, Jasmin Liechti, Marlen Reusser and Noemi Ruegg) have risen to two medals each and, curiously, have managed to successfully defend the placement conquered a year ago in Kigali, confirming themselves in this way among the best interpreters of this event.
