Italy's second medal at the Montreal 2026 World Championships comes from the under 23 time trial. A silver medal performance from Nicolas Milesi, the Italian came close to gold after an excellent time trial effort: victory went to Dutch rider Ryan Gal with a total time of 37:26.16, with the decisive climb at the finish seeing Milesi arrive 7" behind. Spain's Hector Alvarez completed the podium, finishing with a gap of +11.88.

THE RACE. The Italian started his effort on the right foot, at the first intermediate checkpoint he registered a deficit of +10.53 from Alvarez (third best time), with whom he began a head-to-head battle all the way to the finish line. With Matisse van Kerckhove - the day's great favorite who started last - out of contention from the early kilometers, the two began to make up ground on the competition: at the second intermediate checkpoint Milesi placed second at +5.86 from the Spaniard, who in the third section lost considerable time, showing +3.80 from Gal and approximately two seconds from the Italian. Milesi pushed hard on the bike in the final kilometer trying to close the gap with the Dutchman, but the uphill section at the finish proved decisive.

An excellent performance from Milesi himself, while fellow Italian Alessandro Cattani finished in twenty-first place, with a deficit of 1:59.56 from Gal.
