Australia's first gold medal at the 2026 Montreal Road Cycling World Championships. It was claimed by Felicity Wilson-Haffenden who, covering the 20.3 kilometers of the women's under 23 time trial in 27'40" at an average speed of 44 km/h, conquered the top step of the podium, leaving behind Dutch rider Nienke Vinke (silver) and Belgian Luca Vierstraete (bronze).

Through a performance that saw her increase pace and advantage kilometer after kilometer, the Lidl-Trek rider (whose colors she has defended since 2024) ended up beating the surprising twenty-two-year-old from Team SD Worx-Protime by 28 seconds and 45" both the class of 2006 from AG Insurance Soudal Devo Team and a disappointing Viktória Chladoňová.

The Slovak from Team Visma Lease a Bike, the reigning world vice-champion in the discipline, after the initial kilometers was unable to find sufficient pedal power to confirm the good performance achieved a year ago in Kigali and in this way, with a time of 28'26", she finished no better than fourth place, even missing out on a spot on the world podium.

Just one second behind her, fellow Australian Mackenzie Coupland crossed the line, and with her placement, she put the cherry on top for the Oceania nation which, from 2022 to today, had never managed to bring one of its athletes to a medal in this race.

Behind them, all with a deficit of more than a minute, finished in order the home favorite Ava Holmgren, fellow Belgian Febe Jooris, Norwegian Oda Aune Gissinger, the 2025 junior world time trial champion Megan Arens and German Justyna Czapla, while Italy unfortunately did not present any athletes at the start.
