The most insidious opponent for Marlen Reusser will be the weight of expectations. The Swiss rider, reigning world champion in the discipline, is indeed the overwhelming favorite to claim the first world title of Montreal 2026, that of the elite women's time trial.

Reusser won this year's Tour de France time trial and the Tour of Switzerland time trial, finishing second in the Giro d'Italia mountain time trial, and her superiority in the discipline appears truly dominant.

Expected to chase a prestigious result on paper are the British riders Backstedt (who, after the accident she suffered, struggles to walk but not to pedal) and Morris, the Dutch Vollering, the American Faulkner, the Australian Hanson, the Belgian Kopecky, the Spanish Blasi, the French Berthet Labous, the German Niedermaier and the Italians Longo Borghini and Guazzini.

Forty-eight athletes at the start, the first to depart, at 3:19'30" PM, will be Skye Davidson of Zimbabwe, the last Marlen Reusser at 4:30 PM. The Italian riders: Guazzini racing at 3:58'30" PM, Longo Borghini at 4:16'30" PM. Intermediate times recorded at 10.7 km, 21.9 km and 29.8 km.

THE COURSE. The time trials will favor specialists, as the elevation gain will be minimal, although there will be no shortage of technical sections. Elite men and women will face the same course, 39.2 km long and designed around the entire city of Montreal. The route will pass through some of the most representative locations, starting with Vieux-Montréal, then skirting the Saint Lawrence River while also utilizing new cycling paths built for the occasion and destined to remain as part of its legacy. Riders will then transit the Gilles-Villeneuve Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and cross Parc Jean Drapeau, created for Expo 67 and formed by two picturesque islands in the heart of the Saint Lawrence. After crossing the Pont de la Concorde, the route will return to the heart of the city.
