The hunt for a fourth consecutive world title to achieve what no one in history has ever managed. And to reach the podium for the sixth consecutive world championship after the bronzes of 2021 and 2022. This is the objective of Remco Evenepoel, the number one favourite in the world championship race against the clock that takes place in the late Italian afternoon in Montreal.

Filippo Ganna is also seeking his sixth world podium, with a record of two golds (2020 and 2021), two silvers and a bronze. And then there is Stefan Küng who has reached the world podium by winning bronze in 2020 and silver in 2022: the Swiss rider arrives in Canada strong from his success in the time trial at Jerez de la Frontera at the Vuelta, which he then abandoned in the final three stages to avoid wasting energy.

These three are the most talked-about names for today's challenge in which 61 athletes will participate. Among those aiming for the top ten we mention in no particular order the Canadian Leonard, the Danes Asgreen and Bjerg, the Frenchman Armirail, the Briton Hayter, the other Italian Cattaneo, the Norwegian Foss, the other Swiss Bissegger (however recovering from a serious injury) and the American McNulty.

Great curiosity surrounds the performances of Paul Seixas and Isaac Del Toro, the two emerging talents of world cycling, called to compete in a race designed specifically for specialists.

The first to start, at 19:00, will be Gil Gomes from Guinea-Bissau, followed by the riders launching every 90 seconds. Closing the starts will be Ganna at 20:28'30 and Evenepoel at 20:30. Mattia Cattaneo will start at exactly 20:00.

THE COURSE. Time trials, as mentioned, favour specialists, because the elevation gain will be minimal, although there will be no shortage of technical sections. Elite men and women will face the same course, 39.2 km long and designed around the entire city of Montreal. The route will pass through some of the most representative places, starting with Vieux-Montréal, then skirting the Saint Lawrence River also using new cycle paths built for the occasion and destined to remain as part of its legacy. The riders will then transit on the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit, home of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, and cross Parc Jean Drapeau, created for Expo 67 and consisting of two picturesque islands in the heart of the Saint Lawrence. Finally, after crossing the Pont de la Concorde, the route will return to the heart of the city.
