Another notable absence at the Montreal World Championships: Richard Carapaz has announced that he will be forced to skip the elite road race due to health issues.

The EF Education-EasyPost rider wrote in an official letter: «I have officially communicated to the Ecuadorian Federation my decision not to participate in the World Championship in Montreal. As an athlete, my desire has always been to give my best and to represent my country's colors in the best possible way. After careful evaluation and following the medical assessments of my team's medical staff, I am forced to take a step back to take care of my health and to avoid more serious complications for the continuation of my career.

I thank the Federation for the call-up and my team for the assistance they have always provided me: I wish the entire Ecuadorian delegation the best of luck for the Montreal event.

For my part, I will continue with the necessary treatment to resume training as soon as possible».
