The cycling world mourns the passing of Livio Franchini, born in 1938, from Bologna's Calderara di Reno, a figure deeply connected to the sporting history of the territory and the growth of one of Emilia's most symbolic societies: the Unione Polisportiva Calderara.

Franchini was the brother of Primo Franchini, who passed away last April, a man who played a pioneering role in bringing cyclists from the then Soviet Union to professional cycling, opening a new chapter in the history of international cycling.

The eldest of four brothers, Livio is remembered as one of the figures associated with the founding of Unione Polisportiva Calderara, established in 1945, although the cycling section would be officially instituted in 1969. It was he who introduced his brother Primo and his nephew Orlando Maini to cycling, who later became a professional and is now sports director of MBH Bank CSB Telecom Fort.

Livio leaves behind his wife Franca and his son Fausto, to whom the embrace of the cycling community and all those who shared with him a path made of passion, commitment, and expertise goes out.
