A thrilling duel hovering around fifty kilometers per hour between Dutch riders dominated the opening, with victory and the first pink jersey leader's bib of the 30th Giro di Toscana-Memorial Michela Fanini going to Lonneke Uneken (the last to start), in the individual time trial prologue of a couple of kilometers on the Chiesina Uzzanese circuit. The starting platform was located on Via Veneto (Spanish rider Alonso started first) while the finish line was situated on Via Cavour. The best Italian rider was Lara Crestanello, who finished an excellent seventh.
