A completely Italian podium in the women's cycling road race at the Mediterranean Games held on the Valle d'Itria circuit (78 km): on the Taranto waterfront, Rachele Barbieri claimed gold in an all-Italian sprint in which she beat her teammates Martina Fidanza (silver) and Barbara Guarischi (bronze).

The Italian team, expertly orchestrated by experienced Elena Cecchini, dominated the race and concluded with a sprint that was practically a foregone conclusion. Italy thus redeems itself from the disappointment of the two time trials that had resulted in two silver medals. This afternoon, the men's race is scheduled on the same course.
