Almost ten months after her last victory, Sofie van Rooijen raises her arms to the sky once again. The Dutch sprinter from UAE Team L'IMAD claimed victory today at the Konvert Kortrijk Koerse in Belgium, imposing herself with great strength in the final sprint.
The race, held over a distance of 127.6 kilometers with start and finish in Kortrijk, saw UAE Development Team at the start with a lineup composed of two WorldTour athletes, Sofie van Rooijen and Alena Ivanchenko, alongside young riders Fee Knaven, Eilidh Shaw and Magdalena Leis and two Emirati athletes Zahra Hussain and Safiya Alsayegh.
The Emirati team performed excellent work throughout the day, controlling the race and keeping the situation under control with the finish in sight. In the final kilometers, her teammates worked to set up van Rooijen's sprint in the best possible conditions for the final dash.
The Dutch sprinter made perfect use of her team's work and closed out the race with a powerful sprint, thus returning to victory and leaving behind Charlotte Kool (Fenix-Premier Tech) and Kathrin Schweinberger (Human Powered Health).
For van Rooijen, this is her first victory after almost ten months and a particularly important success, coming at the end of a day made even more difficult by rain.
Sofie van Rooijen said: "I'm very happy to be back to winning. It was not an easy day, we had rain all day long and the team was of great support. Unfortunately Magdalena Leis was involved in a crash, but she managed to get back into the group. She and the whole team did great work and did everything possible to keep me in the best position. I'm happy to have repaid the entire team with this victory".
