Through his social media profiles, Bob Jungels has announced his retirement at the end of this season. The 34-year-old Luxembourger has raced for some of the best teams of the last decade, from Trek to Quick-Step, passing through AG2R, Red Bull and, in the last two years, Netcompany Ineos.
His palmares is impressive, as in addition to a stage at the Giro d'Italia (Bergamo 2017) with 8 days in the Maglia Rosa and two top 10 final finishes, and a stage at the 2022 Tour de France, he also won the 2018 Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne the following year. A complete rider, he actually had his peak at a very young age, showing some difficulty in adapting to modern cycling, as indeed many of his generation have. During his career he also won 9 Luxembourgish time trial national titles and 6 road race titles.
«After 15 years as a professional cyclist, I officially announce that at the end of this season I will retire from racing - Jungels wrote -. Looking back on my career, I feel immense gratitude towards my teammates, the staff, my family, my friends and, of course, all the fans who supported me along every kilometer of this journey. Professional cycling has profoundly contributed to making me the person I am today. I am grateful for all the opportunities it has given me and proud of what I have managed to achieve on the world's biggest stages. I am very excited about what awaits me and I look forward to putting the same discipline and passion to the service of the next phase of my career, in the business world. Soon I will have the pleasure of sharing these new projects with you. See you out there».
