Fabio Jakobsen has joined Team Visma | Lease a Bike with immediate effect. The 29-year-old Dutch sprinter has signed a contract that will see him wear the yellow and black colors until the end of the 2028 season. He will immediately begin working within the team's preparation and performance program. Throughout his career, Jakobsen has claimed several stage victories in the Grand Tours and became European champion. Now the Dutchman considers Team Visma | Lease a Bike the ideal environment to rediscover his best form and return to competing for victories.
«I've raced against this team for several years and, seeing everything they've managed to achieve over time and the consistency with which they perform at the highest levels, wearing these colors is a dream come true» the rider declared.
The Dutchman is convinced that Team Visma | Lease a Bike offers the ideal environment to return to his best level. «My goal is to return to the level that allows me to compete again at the highest levels and fight for sprint victories. As a sprinter, you never win alone, so being part of a strong team is fundamental. I believe this is one of the best training environments in the world», he explains. «I believe we can learn from each other and continue to improve together. There is a lot of work to be done, but I am convinced that this is the right environment to make progress».
Mathieu Heijboer, Head of Performance, explains the reasons behind this operation: «We were looking for a specialist for pure flat-stage sprints. The more we looked into Fabio's situation, the more we were convinced that there was still great untapped potential. We believe we can create the right environment to help him express it. At the same time, the fact that Fabio is joining us right now allows us to start working with him immediately, rather than having to wait until next season».
In the coming months, the objective will be a gradual return to competition. The work will focus on recovering fitness, introducing him to the team's training philosophy, nutritional program and working methods, as well as integrating Jakobsen into the group. The team wants to give him the time and structure he needs, with the ultimate goal of seeing him compete again for victories in sprint finishes.
