UAE TEAM EMIRATES XRG. 10 and honors. They win the Tour for the fifth time with Taddeo and get the satisfaction of putting Isaac Del Toro on the third step of the podium as well. Six stage wins, five with Taddeo, one that Taddeo leaves to Isaac. Twenty-two top-ten finishes, a race dominated far and wide, even with the infirmary full and the fear of transforming the team into a hospital ward. Then it transforms into a stadium, where the chants and music at full volume are just the soundtrack to a triumph.
LIDL TREK. 8.5. They're the team that collected the most top-ten finishes of all (25), won a stage and took home the green jersey with Mads Pedersen. But that's not all: first place in the team classification and two riders in the top ten: Skjelmose 6th and Ayuso 7th. Also for them, a race of absolute level. As a great team, they also took the award for best team rider: Quinn Simmons. If that's the case, Mads Pedersen didn't hold back either.
VISMA LEASE A BIKE. 7.5. They win the team time trial in Barcelona then finish behind Taddeo with Jonas. Everything was ready for the grand finale that never came: a shame for him and for us. Nine top-ten finishes, but even without their captain they try to give meaning to their race, and they do. Our Piganzoli, a last-minute substitute, turns out to be a winning gamble in the end.
RED BULL BORA HANSGROHE. 9. If there wasn't who there is in reality, he would have done almost the same thing. Because Remco Evenepoel is absolute talent, who can only be second to someone who is majestically greater than him. Two stage wins, a second place in the general classification, a good dose of top-ten finishes (19): in short, an immense Tour.
DECATHLON CMA CGM. 9. Sixteen top-ten finishes, a race worthy of a great team, being one for real. They win a stage with Kooij and then everyone pitches in for "le petit garçon" Paul Seixas, who on his first Tour, at just 19 years old, finishes 4th. Not bad at all. Of course, now comes the hardest part: raising the bar even higher. But this talented young man from Lyon has everything to be able to do it.
NETCOMPANY INEOS. 5. They always raced like a great team, because they are one and know how it's done. Unfortunately, the riders, for the classification, are what they are. Bernal is the symbol of a team that needs to be rebuilt.
ALPECIN PREMIER TECH. 8.5. They're a team of strikers and their results end up taking them home. They start with no small difficulty, then Van der Poel finds the right pedal stroke and suddenly the team rises to another level. Three stage wins (with Vdp and Philipsen) are more than enough. But there's this one in Paris, simply stunning, intoxicating and dazzling that will stay in our eyes for a long time. What a beautiful Paris kissed by the Tour.
GROUPAMA FDJ. 4.5. The team is important, but the race is nothing short of modest. Of course, the fatigue must have been considerable, as it was for everyone, but for them it was clearly toxic. Seven top-ten finishes. Period.
BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS. 7.5. Selfishly we were hoping for our Antonio Tiberi who discovered what Tour agonism is: nothing more difficult and complex and comparable. They don't win stages, but they collect ten top-ten finishes and a very good 5th place overall with Lenny Martinez. By the way: three Frenchmen in the top ten. We could use more.
TEAM JAYCO ALULA. 7. They came here to win at least one stage and they do it with Mauro Schmid who has a great Tour. Nine top-ten finishes, with one win and two second places always with the Swiss champion. Brent Copeland also has every reason to be more than satisfied.
UNO-X MOBILITY. 8. As a team and in terms of consistency, they were among the most convincing overall. They were good, there's no doubt about it. Ten top-ten finishes, one stage win with Waerenskjold, two days in yellow with Traeen. Johannessen aims for the top ten, but stops in 12th position, but these are details.
PINARELLO Q36.5 PRO CYCLING TEAM. 6.5. It's clear they expected to come back from this Tour with something more than a 9th place overall with Pidcock, but it's already something.
EF EDUCATION EASY POST. 9. They start quietly and wait confidently for the third week, where they manage to unleash hell with Carapazzo. Crazy, unstoppable, enjoyable like few others in this Tour which he concludes in 8th position. Two stage wins, a polka dot jersey always with Cara-pois, and also the red number for most combative rider: Charlie Wegelius will be proud of his boys.
LOTTO INTERMARCHÈ. 4. Six top-ten finishes, then lots of fatigue, lots of waiting, in the sense that their riders made themselves wait. Van Eetvelt: nowhere to be found.
MOVISTAR TEAM. 5. With all those climbs there was room to have fun: nothing, as they say in the trade they always suffered the race.
NSN CYCLING TEAM. 5. They were here for the stages and came away empty-handed. They fought a bit – too little – for the green jersey. For the rest, 7 top-ten finishes in three weeks.
XDS ASTANA TEAM. 5.5. I think they also expected something more, clearly something was missing. Seven top-ten finishes and a Tejada who arrived after the group more than two hours back. Kanter was good this evening in Paris, arriving just a few pedal strokes from the giants.
SOUDAL QUICK-STEP. 8. Three wins are a lot. Keep in mind that the wins were obtained by 10 teams: Visma, Uae, Lidl, Red Bull, Decathlon, Alpecin, Jayco, Uno X, EF and... them. In short, a great Tour, where they fought until the end with their lightweight Valentino Paret-Peintre. They also had Ilan Van Wilder in 12th position, but due to a crash he was forced to retire just yesterday. In any case, a race of the highest level.
COFIDIS. 6. We've said it over and over: with this cast of participants and such a hard race it was already difficult just to get out of bed to go down for breakfast. Roberto Damiani's boys tried to do something, collecting five top-ten finishes all with an excellent Milan Fretin. For a team that this year was celebrating 30 years of sponsorship, it's not the best. But the political 6 is also for the sponsor: hurray!
TOTALENERGIES. 6.5. A few top-ten finishes (seven) and then everyone working for Jordan Jegat who brought home a top-ten spot. Things that one day you can also tell your grandchildren about.
TEAM PICNIC POSTNL. 4. I expected more courage, especially when there's nothing to lose. It's true that in such a hard Tour raced at crazy speeds it wasn't easy to even just get in a breakaway, but they called themselves out.
TUDOR PROCYCLING TEAM. 6. They're missing the tenth position in the general classification with Yannis Voisard. Just behind, an 11th place that is in any case appreciable. A team devoted to this cause, for a placement that is clearly a starting point.
CAJA RURAL-SEGUROS RGA. 4. It was a Cinderella and as such it showed itself. Only one top-ten finish with Gaviria in the 11th stage (9th): a bit too little.
