Mads Pedersen is fighting to win the green jersey, and possibly other stage victories, at the Tour de France, but he is already looking ahead and has already planned the end of his career in his mind.
His dream is indeed to retire after competing in the 2029 world championships in his Denmark. He announced this himself in an interview given to the program AftenTour broadcast by Danish broadcaster TV2.
"Everything comes to an end, and for me that day will be when I can no longer fight for a victory. Transforming myself from team leader to a rider who always has to lend a hand is very difficult for me. The World Championship at home is a special milestone for me, so the plan is to retire after the Copenhagen event".
Pedersen, who became world champion in 2019 in Harrogate, is quick to clarify: "This decision of mine does not mean that I have already made plans for after retirement. I am still immersed in the world of cycling: for now, the goal is the green jersey. And in the coming years I will continue to chase that victory that I am missing in a monument classic. And when I have won one, I will immediately chase another one".
