This morning in Barcelona, Biniam Girmay spoke during the NSN Cycling Team press conference, the squad with which he has great ambitions for this Grande Boucle. The Eritrean sprinter showed himself to be extremely motivated and ready to support his role as team leader.
"I'm very happy and super motivated to be here in Barcelona, to be able to aim for stage wins and the green jersey," Girmay declared. These objectives, according to the Eritrean, represent the core of the team's preparation since the beginning of the season. Girmay's determination is reflected not only in his words, but also in the better results achieved compared to 2025.
Commenting on the main changes compared to the previous year, Girmay emphasized that, although there is no major difference on a personal level, the quality of his teammates and the support provided has improved significantly. "I have stronger teammates and a more solid support team," he stated, highlighting how this has contributed to his recent successes. This strengthening of the squad is the result of collective hard work, aimed at achieving shared objectives.
Girmay also spoke about his preparation for this year's race: "I've had enough time to prepare for this year's race, especially compared to previous years. Furthermore, we are all more or less in the same physical condition: this also makes a big difference because, as a team, we need everyone to be at the same level. So I think it's important to highlight this, because we've already seen it in the last few days of training together. If you look at my best sprint performances, they were at the 2024 Tour, and we had two super hard and hot stages at the beginning in Italy. This is harder for others, but this year it could also be an advantage for me, because I can handle the heat better. After the team time trial, we have hot and hard stages from the start," he said, indicating that the heat could prove to be an advantage for him, given that he can handle it better than other cyclists.
Biniam Girmay is therefore preparing to face this Tour with great determination and confidence, supported by a stronger and more cohesive squad. His ability to face challenges, combined with ambitious objectives, positions him as one of the cyclists to watch.
