With a magnificent and uncertain sprint until the very last moment, the twenty-one-year-old Veronese Mattia Negrente from Xds Astana Development Team was crowned Italian Under 23 Champion by winning the 55th Trofeo Città di Lucca, organized with passion and commitment by the U.C. Lucchese 1948 presided over by Angelo Battaglia. Alongside the brilliant winner guided from the team car by former professional Mario Manzoni, the excellent Tuscan from Vecchiano Federico Savino, who was riding solo for Team Soudal Quick Step and who claimed the Mountain Prize at the three passages of Monte Pitoro and the two categorized climbs of Chiatri, contested the sprint for the title. On the tricolor podium on Viale Carducci was also Mirko Bozzola, while Barbuto, Cattani and Scalco, the winner's teammate and invaluable in the final stages, completed the group of six protagonists in the race finale.
A fine Italian Championship as also recognized by the Italian National Team Coach Marino Amadori, fast-paced, animated by various breakaway attempts and without respite on a day with 38 degrees. Starting from the famous Mura Urbane of Lucca were 178 riders from 49 teams with three laps of over 40 kilometers including the climbs of Monte Pitoro and Quiesa before the two laps on the circuit not far from the city with the climb of Chiatri. Here the race ignited, it became beautiful with the attack by Scalco, Bosio and Negrente. Bosio faded and this was the signal for the attack by Xds Astana Development Team while the tandem of the Pisan Savino, Barbuto, Bozzola and Cattani, all athletes who were among the main contenders in the tricolor race, made a decisive comeback to not let themselves be caught. The group of six by mutual agreement put all the others out of contention and reached the finish line with Scalco attempting a surge in favor of his teammate and swift Negrente, forcing the others to respond. The sprint was beautiful with the Veronese born in 2025 managing to get the better of Savino and Bozzola who until the very last moment sought to make up ground. Among the guests present were the national vice president of the Italian Cycling Federation Saverio Metti with national councilor Laura Puccetti, the president of the Regional CONI Simone Cardullo, the mayor of Lucca Mario Pardini and the sports assessor Fabio Barsanti, the president of the C.P. of Lucca Pierluigi Castellani.
