This Saturday, June 20th, Chase the Sun Italia returns for its ninth edition. The challenge launched to participants is to cross Italy from coast to coast, celebrating the summer solstice, on the longest day of the year: 280 kilometers by bicycle, from the Adriatic to the Tyrrhenian Sea, starting at dawn from the historic canal port of Cesenatico to reach Tirrenia before sunset. Participants will have 16 hours of daylight to complete the challenge at their own pace.
This year the event is enriched by an extraordinary presence. Sharing the road with the participants will be Miguel Indurain, Enervit ambassador, who has been a historic partner of the event since its first edition. Five Tour de France victories and two Giro d'Italia titles in his palmares, the Spanish champion perfectly embodies the philosophy of it's a ride, not a race. Without time trial logic or competitive stress, Indurain will pedal alongside the other sun chasers with the unmistakable style that has always distinguished him, made of respect for the road and harmony with the territory.
Miguel Indurain, participating in Chase the Sun Italia for the first time, comments as follows: "It's a pleasure to be here at Chase the Sun Italia with the friends of the Enervit team, to cross Italy from coast to coast. The kilometers are truly many, but I like the idea of pedaling without the pressures and stress that characterize races, being able to appreciate the landscape and the company of those pedaling with us. To fully enjoy the route and arrive at the finish line in good condition, you need to pay careful and constant attention to nutrition, alternating foods and supplements.
It's useful to consume solid products, energy bars, and liquid mixtures in your water bottle such as Isocarb to maintain a constant supply of carbohydrates and salts. The tank must always be full. Given the high temperatures expected, you need to pay attention to sodium, which is lost through sweating: it must be replenished. Enervit has various products in different formats to choose from, depending on tastes and needs. In my time the choice was more limited, while today the science of sports nutrition has evolved tremendously. There are energy bars C2:1 PRO with sodium, Carbo Gels, and electrolytes in sachets to dissolve in your water bottle".
The route winds along one of the itineraries of the Strade Zitte network designed by Turbolento: secondary roads away from heavy traffic. From the hills of Romagna, passing through the forests of Casentino, to the Apennine ridges and Tuscan landscapes, the route reveals the beauty of lesser-known Italy, encountering hidden villages and passing silently, respectfully and gratefully through unique cities of art such as Florence and Pisa, until reaching the beach at the finish line. For the refreshing and celebratory final dip in the other sea: the feat is accomplished.
