The first Giro d'Italia, the 1936 edition won by Gino Bartali, will be remembered with two days of celebrations, Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, organized by the Gino Bartali Cycling Museum in Ponte a Ema, directed by Maurizio Bresci. A commemoration blending history, sport and humanity, featuring events, guided tours, cultural meetings and commemorations, promoted by the Friends of the Cycling Museum Association in collaboration with the Nova Unione Velocipedistica Italiana, with support from the Tuscany Region and the patronage of the municipalities of Florence and Bagno a Ripoli, CONI Tuscany and Uisp.
Saturday, June 13 the Museum opens at 10 a.m. with free guided tours throughout the day with extended hours until 7 p.m. At 11:15 a.m. a procession to the Ponte a Ema cemetery for the commemoration dedicated to Gino Bartali. In the afternoon at 3:30 p.m. the conference "Bartali in 1936", at 5 p.m. activities for young people and then at 8 p.m. dinner on the museum terrace.
Sunday, June 14 at 8 a.m. a ride with vintage bicycles and clothing from the 1930s and 1940s, crossing the historic center of Florence to Piazza della Signoria. At 10:30 a.m. the commemoration will be held at the Giulio Bartali Monument on the San Donato climb with the laying of a wreath of flowers, while in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Ponte a Ema Theater, Massimo Reale, an actor of theater, cinema and television, through a scenic reading dedicated to Gino Bartali and the years of World War II, will guide the audience through a journey made of testimonies, stories and episodes.
