Five days before the start, the entry list for the upcoming Giro Next Gen, which will depart on June 14 from Reggio Calabria - with team presentations scheduled for June 13 at 6:30 PM from Piazza Duomo - and will conclude in L'Aquila on the 21st with an individual time trial, has been officially announced. It will be eight days of very demanding racing, with two uphill finishes and over 14,000 meters of elevation gain.
THE BATTLE FOR THE PINK JERSEY
Despite his crash at the Tour of the Alps, Lorenzo Mark Finn is confirmed on the start list and will bring the rainbow jersey to the Giro Next Gen 20 years after Dmytro Grabovskyy. The Red Bull - Bora Hansgrohe - Rookies rider is one of the great favorites for the overall victory. Among the main rivals we find Henrique Bravo, recent winner of Tour of Antalya and Oberosterreich Rundfahrt, the Bahrain Development Team pairing of Kasper Borremans and Jan Jackowiak, Dutch rider Daan Dijkman, winner of the Liège-Bastogne-Liège U23, French rider Remi Daumas, who stood out at the Ronde de l'Isard, Belgian Kamiel Eeman, winner of the Peace Race, and his compatriot Matisse Van Kerckhove, who conquered the Alpes Isere Tour. In the entry list, alongside Finn, there are two other riders capable of finishing in the top 10 of the 2025 edition: Matteo Vanhuffel (8th) and Matteo Scalco (9th).
STAGE HUNTERS
In the 2026 route there are many opportunities also for those who will not directly pursue the general classification, but who will hunt for partial victories. After winning the points classification in 2025, Aubin Sparfel returns to the Giro Next Gen. The French rider from Decathlon CMA CGM Development Team has already won twice at the Tour de Bretagne and will have as his main objective the many undulating stages on the program. Also confirmed on the start list are two stage winners from the 2025 edition like Adam Rafferty and Seth Dunwoody. The list of the fastest riders on the start is led by Italian Davide Donati, already successful with the professionals and winner of the Paris-Roubaix in his category. In addition to the Red Bull Rookies rider, Patrick Frydkjaer, Mirko Bozzola, Aldo Taillieu, Davide Stella and Halvor Dolven are confirmed. Among the stage hunters, on mixed terrain, we should note Jack Ward, Mattia Negrente, Jesper Stiansen, Tommaso Bambagioni, Jasper Schoofs, Riccardo Lorello, Patryk Goszczurny and Cameron Rogers.
THE ROUTE
14/06 STAGE 1 - REGGIO CALABRIA-VIBO VALENTIA, 168 KM
A moving stage with departure from Reggio Calabria and transfer along the Ionian coast to Locri. The climb of Valico della Limina (passage through a tunnel) is then tackled, the main difficulty of the day, followed by crossing the Gioia Tauro plain. Undulating finish in the Vibonese area with passage through Mileto before arrival in Vibo Valentia. Last kilometers in slight descent. Final straight of 400 m.
15/06 STAGE 2 - TROPEA-CROTONE, 154 KM
A predominantly flat stage connecting the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts of Calabria. After passing through Pizzo, the short climb of Marcellinara is tackled, the only climb of the day to reach Catanzaro Lido. Last kilometers flowing along the coast towards Crotone, with an arrival suited to the sprinters. Final straight of 700 m.
16/06 STAGE 3 - SIBARI-VILLA D'AGRI DI MARSICOTEVERE, 169 KM
The first mountain stage of the race. From Sibari, the climb towards Valico di Campotenese crosses the Pollino massif, then continues in the Lucanian hinterland on a constantly undulating route. Demanding finish towards Villa d'Agri with the climb of Viggiano 15 km from the finish, ideal terrain for the first confrontations between the general classification contenders. Last kilometers flat on predominantly straight roads interspersed with some marked curves. Final straight of 300 m.
17/06 STAGE 4 - MATERA-CORATO (MOLINO CASILLO), 152 KM
A lively stage in the first part crossing the Murge plateau. After Gravina in Puglia the route heads towards Corato where a circuit is planned including the double passage of Castel del Monte. Fast finish after the last descent. Final straight of 500 m.
18/06 STAGE 5 - BACOLI-BACOLI, 134 KM
A stage entirely designed in the Phlegraean Fields on a circuit characterized by continuous ups and downs. The repeated climb of Monte di Procida, the steep ramp of Mofete (15%) and the numerous elevation changes make the race particularly nervous. Last kilometers first descending from Monte di Procida and then flat on wide and predominantly straight roads. Final straight of 300 m.
19/06 STAGE 6 - VELLETRI-SUBIACO - MONTE LIVATA, 157 KM
An Apennine stage crossing the Castelli Romani and Ciociaria. After Fiuggi and the Altipiani di Arcinazzo the route reaches Subiaco to tackle the final climb towards Monte Livata. The climb measures 16 km with a very steep section (15%) in the first kilometers.
20/06 STAGE 7 - SULMONA-PIANA DELLE MELE (GUARDIAGRELE), 135 KM
A short and very selective mountain stage. After the climb to Forcella di Acciano the race tackles Passo Lanciano, the main altimetric difficulty of the day. A subsequent technical section leads to the final climb towards Piana delle Mele, where the finish is located. The steep part of the final climb measures 4 km with a constant gradient around 7%.
21/06 STAGE 8 - VILLA SANT'ANGELO-L'AQUILA TUDOR ITT, 22.2 KM
An individual time trial with an undulating profile, developed in the L'Aquila territory. The route alternates fast sections with more demanding sections characterized by continuous changes of pace. Final part in slight ascent towards the center of L'Aquila, where the race concludes. At 1500 m the road begins to climb. The last km has a gradient around 7% with a peak of 11% a few hundred meters before entering the final straight which measures 400 m.
