Second stage of the Giro d'Italia Women and another opportunity for the sprinters: today's programme features the Roncade – Caorle stage of 156 km. It is obviously still a shaken peloton, the pink one, after the sensational exclusion of Lorena Wiebes. The bike of the Dutch champion was weighed multiple times yesterday evening and reached 6.78 kilograms, a measurement below the 6.8 kilograms required by UCI regulations. The jury presided over by Belgian Jurgen Deryckere and composed of Irishman Gary McIlroy and Italians Ernesto Maggioni and Francesca Mannori proceeded to disqualify Wiebes from the race, stripping her of the victory and pink jersey but above all the opportunity to continue competing.

Another fraction perfect for the sprinters: the race will take place between Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, but the stage is not completely flat. After 65 km, the Ca' del Poggio Wall will be tackled, an iconic climb of just over one kilometre but with an average gradient of 12.3%, the first rider over the top will also become the first leader of the climbers' classification (yesterday in the first stage there wasn't even a categorized climb).
The summit is very far from the finish line and the climb should not put the sprint finish in doubt. After a descent section, the final 50 km are completely flat all the way to Caorle. In the absence of real gaps, time bonuses could make the difference for the pink jersey.
