A fantastic victory on a day truly full of meaning: Filippo Fiorelli has conquered success in the 42nd edition of the Tro Bro Leon, a French classic considered the Roubaix of Brittany. At the end of a race of 201 km, disputed with start and finish in Lannilis, the Sicilian took advantage of the numerical superiority of the Visma Lease a Bike men in the small group that remained at the front in the final and, attacking with perfect timing 3 kilometers from the line, he imposed himself ahead of Alexis Renard (Cofidis) and Lewis Askey (NSN Cycling Team), who were clever in the sprint to secure the remaining two podium places, regulating the group of 9 riders who crossed the finish line just behind the Palermo native.
Particularly emotional, Fiorelli - at his second professional victory - wanted to dedicate the victory to Marcello Massini, the dean of Tuscan directeurs sportifs who passed away in recent days, who "discovered" him in the world of gran fondos and was the first to believe in him.
"Being able to win today is truly beautiful because yesterday the d.s. who launched me left us, one of the best I've ever had, and I wanted to show him, who believed in me from the beginning, that he was right. This victory is for him" declared the Italian immediately after the finish line.
"We had planned that in the final kilometers we would have to try to attack. I knew that with me there was Axel Zingle who could do the sprint and this allowed me to play my cards and it worked out well. Visma? Racing with this team is truly important because it's one of the best teams in the world, you have greater responsibility on your shoulders, but everything becomes easier".
