Following the surprising intervention by French President Emmanuel Macron, who had publicly expressed his hope for the young talent Paul Seixas to remain with the Decathlon CMA CGM team, the cycling world is once again talking about the Lyon-born youngster, but this time it has decided to do so through music.
Drawing attention is Kilian Willems, a 28-year-old born in Germany and passionate about cycling, now based in Stockholm and known on social media by his stage name Killow. The artist has gained growing online popularity thanks to a short song dedicated precisely to Seixas, which went viral within just a few days.
In the video, simple yet effective, Killow accompanies himself on guitar and launches a direct appeal to the young French rider: to stay with his current team and not give in to the calls from other squads. The tone is ironic but the message is crystal clear, as demonstrated by some verses now shared thousands of times: «Paul Seixas, please don't sign for UAE. You're too good to be just Pogacar's successor. Do you really want to spend the winter racing in Zone 2 in the desert?»
What had started as a humorous clip quickly transcended social media boundaries, transforming into a small media phenomenon. The track was indeed released on all major streaming platforms, further consolidating Killow's notoriety.
The French newspaper L'Équipe seized the opportunity to interview the artist, asking him what drove him to dedicate a song to the young French talent. The answer was simple and sincere: «Seixas is only 19 years old, but he manages to unite the entire team. He shows no signs of nervousness; it's impressive».
Behind the song's irony lies genuine sporting admiration. Killow, who has always composed songs related to cycling, didn't expect such success, but at the same time hopes that his verses might convince Seixas to remain in France: «It would be terrible if this transfer went through, it would make this sport incredibly boring. On my part, I've always written songs about cycling. I never would have expected to achieve such success».
In an era where sport increasingly lives through social media, Killow's story demonstrates how passion can transform into creativity and, sometimes, into a viral phenomenon capable of influencing the debate surrounding the protagonists of international cycling. It now remains to be seen whether, between institutional appeals and songs that have gone viral, Paul Seixas will truly decide to remain loyal to his team.
