The presentation of the new Visma–Lease a Bike team jersey for the 2026 Tour de France marks an interesting meeting point between sport, art, and fan passion. For the edition that will start from Barcelona on July 4th with a team time trial, the Dutch team of Vingegaard and Van Aert has chosen to pay homage to one of the most iconic figures in world architecture: Antoni Gaudí, who left his most beautiful works in Barcelona.
Gaudí, a Catalan architect who lived between the 19th and 20th centuries, is known for his unique style, made up of organic forms, natural geometries, and vivid colors. His imprint is everywhere in Barcelona and the first images lead to the Sagrada Família, recently completed after over a century of work. This artistic heritage directly inspired the creative concept of the new jersey.
Team Visma-Lease a Bike not only presented the Tour jersey inspired by Antoni Gaudí, but wanted to give fans the opportunity to express their preference. The jersey was created around the creative concept "The Architect," placing Gaudí's influence and the city's distinctive visual language at the center. It draws inspiration directly from Gaudí's works and sketches, where natural structures play a central role. One element stands out in particular: the honeycomb. For Gaudí, strength did not lie in the appearance of an object, but in its functionality. The honeycomb perfectly embodies this idea: a collection of small elements that form a solid and extremely efficient whole.
This philosophy aligns perfectly with that of Visma-Lease a Bike, which firmly believes in a collective approach. The honeycomb pattern on the jersey makes this idea tangible, connecting the spirit of Barcelona and Gaudí with that of the team. In line with this philosophy, fans will once again have a direct role in the design process. They will be able to choose between two versions of the jersey, one dark and one light, both based on the same design principle. Voting will take place from today through Thursday, and then the winning jersey will be worn during the Tour. Fan involvement will go beyond voting, and for those who order the jersey, there will be the opportunity to have their name printed, integrating it discreetly into an element that resembles an architectural signature. Jasper Saeijs, CMO of Visma-Lease a Bike, explains: "Our fans are becoming an increasingly important part of the team. The yellow-black swarm continues to grow, even along the roads. It's fantastic to be able to involve them directly once again in designing our Tour jersey."
This initiative represents a successful example of how modern sport can dialogue with the culture and identity of a territory, transforming a simple jersey into a symbol shared between team, city, and fans.
