As every year, in San Giovanni in Marignano, enthusiasm ignites for one of the most coveted races of the early season: the Gran Premio Colli Marignanesi, scheduled for Sunday, April 12 under the organization of Velo Club Cattolica. An event created for the junior category (25th edition) and later expanded to include youth riders (2nd edition), which is taking on the characteristics of a true classic of Central-Northern Italy, backed by increasingly large and qualified participation.
This year too, the prestige of the race will be no less, with entries beginning to grow from Italy's top teams. What attracts so many squads is precisely the nature of the course that winds through the hills of the Rimini hinterland, characterized by continuous ups and downs, ideal for those who love to race dynamically.
The base circuit measures just over 15 kilometers and develops with the start in the historic center of San Giovanni in Marignano and the finish line set on Viale Roma. The highest point coincides with the climb of Santa Maria del Monte. After the descent, there follow 2.5 kilometers of fast downhill on good asphalt and wide curves, before returning to flat terrain. The final 4 kilometers, completely flat, lead to the finish line.
There are four laps of the base circuit for youth riders. For juniors one more lap plus an additional segment: the difficult Muro di Isola di Brescia, 500 meters with gradients of 10 to 15%. The descent occurs 10 kilometers from the finish with a return to the most challenging part of the circuit to complete another passage at Santa Maria del Monte. After the mountain prime follows 2.5 kilometers of descent and 4 kilometers of flat terrain to reach the finish line on Viale Roma. The junior race awards the FCI Emilia Romagna regional champion jersey.
A race that will deliver spectacle from morning to afternoon and which, as always, will not disappoint the expectations of cycling enthusiasts.
