Tom Pidcock secured a prestigious victory at Milano-Torino, dominating the Superga climb with authority and securing a solo triumph just three days before Milano-Sanremo.
Despite not feeling at his best, the Pinarello Q36.5 captain raced with great intelligence: "I'm very happy. Today I felt a bit strange... it almost seemed like my first race of the year, but in the end I can say I'm delighted".
And further: "The plan was to control the race, without letting dangerous breakaways get away until the first climb at Superga. From there on it was up to me, and I felt responsible for finishing the work my teammates had done. It was nice to be congratulated by Mark Cavendish, he's one of my idols. I'm pleased he's still part of this sport and representing it at the highest level. He was able to win Milano-Sanremo, which is my next objective. I'm feeling good, even though I'm aware it's the most difficult race to win".
And it's precisely the Classicissima that dominates Pidcock's thoughts: "It's one of my favorite races, but if you make a single mistake it can cost you dearly, you can lose everything. In any case, I've taken home this Milano-Torino which is a special race: winning today in this historic edition has been truly fantastic".
