STATEMENTS
Silvia Salis, Mayor of Genoa: "For Genoa, it is a matter of pride to be once again the starting city of the Sanremo Women, an event that combines sport, territory and the promotion of high-level women's cycling. Hosting the start of such a prestigious competition means giving international visibility, through sport, to our city and to Liguria, enhancing a major event capable of crossing extraordinary places and speaking to an ever-wider audience. The Sanremo Women also represents an important signal on the cultural and sporting level: investing in women's sport, recognizing its value and supporting its growth means contributing to building positive models for new generations and promoting an increasingly participated and followed sporting practice."
Marco Bucci, President of the Liguria Region and Simona Ferro, Vice President and Sports Assessor of the Liguria Region: "The Sanremo Women returned in 2025, almost twenty years after the last edition, also thanks to the strong will of the regional administration to restore to the territory, on the occasion of Liguria's nomination as European Region of Sport, a prestigious women's competition capable of standing alongside the historic Milan-Sanremo: a significant result, therefore, not only from a sporting point of view, but also in terms of equal opportunities. We welcome the 2026 edition with enthusiasm, because if restarting is important, confirming is fundamental: Liguria deserves to continue hosting sporting events of this level, which give enormous visibility to the territory and represent a source of great pride for the entire community."
Alessandro Mager, Mayor of Sanremo, and Alessandro Sindoni, Tourism and Sports Assessor of the Municipality of Sanremo: "The Sanremo Women represents an appointment of great sporting value for our city, capable of bringing the world's best female cyclists to the territory and confirming Sanremo as a natural venue for events of international importance. Events like this constitute an important opportunity for visibility and tourist promotion for our destination because they allow us to enhance the territory, strengthen the city's attractiveness and offer visitors and enthusiasts the opportunity to discover the beauties of Sanremo. Our city thus confirms its great sporting vocation, positioning itself once again as a protagonist of international cycling."
Giusy Virelli, Project Manager of Sanremo Women: "The women's Classicissima, which returned last year to the international cycling calendar in a renewed version, gave us great emotions already from the first edition. All the best female athletes in the cycling world competed to secure a place in history, and this year too the Sanremo Women will be one of the main objectives of the season for the great protagonists of two wheels. Large crowds on the roads and important media coverage make the Sanremo Women a great driver for promoting the territory."
Lorena Wiebes: "I can't wait to race at the Sanremo Women again. For me it was a splendid emotion to win, also because the team worked hard to put me in a position to win and everything went perfectly. Last year this race was a novelty for everyone, especially the finale with Cipressa and Poggio, and we need to be ready because the situation could change and we'll have to control the attacks. I'm very motivated anyway, and my goal will be to confirm my victory."
Elisa Longo Borghini: "I approach the Sanremo Women with great determination and motivation, because last year I had a bit of a bitter taste. I won't hide that this year it will be one of my seasonal objectives. Compared to last year I think there could be a bit more selection, because we all know the route better and especially the finale, and I believe I have the right team to try to make it happen."
Marianne Vos: "It's a race full of charm, and its unpredictability increases its value, because the public is in continuous tension in the finale. Last year was a very beautiful experience, even though Lorena Wiebes was stronger than me in the sprint. This year I hope to improve the final result, and I will try to add my name to the roll of honor."
THE ROUTE OF THE SANREMO WOMEN PRESENTED BY CRÉDIT AGRICOLE
The second edition of the Sanremo Women repeats the route tackled in 2025. It starts from Genoa, crosses the Ancient Port on an elevated road to reach Sestri Ponente and enter the Aurelia state road. A few kilometers later the men's race is encountered at Voltri and from there the race continues to the finish, retracing the road that for more than 110 years connected Milan with Sanremo. It then proceeds westward next to the sea along the Aurelia state road through Varazze, Savona, Albenga until reaching Imperia. At San Lorenzo al Mare, after the classic sequence of the Capes (Mele, Cervo and Berta), two climbs inserted in the last decades of the last century are tackled: Cipressa (1982) and Poggio di Sanremo (1961). The Cipressa covers 5.6 km at 4.1% to lead into the very technical descent that returns to the ss.1 Aurelia.
At 9 km from the finish the climb of Poggio di Sanremo begins (3.7 km at less than 4% average with peaks of 8% in the section preceding the summit). The climb features a slightly narrowed roadway and 4 hairpin turns in the first 2 km. The descent is very demanding on asphalt road, narrow in some passages, with a succession of hairpin turns and curves and counter-curves until the junction with the Aurelia state road. The last part of the descent takes place in the town of Sanremo. Last 2 km on long straightaways on city streets. Worth noting at 850 m from the finish a left turn on a roundabout and at 750 m from the finish the last turn that leads onto the final straight of Via Roma, all on asphalt surface.
