Are you ready to be surprised by the cycling secrets of a corner of Italy waiting to be discovered? Well then, mark your calendars for the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico. Friday, May 13th, the Marotta-Mondolfo - Mombaroccio is ready to deliver unique emotions to all cycling enthusiasts.
It's the stage of the Climbs, but it's not "simply" the stage of the Climbs: it's something much more. If it's true that this year the Two Seas Race lacks a major mountain stage, then the fifth stage presents itself as a true classic with 21 - twenty-one - climbs and 4,270 meters of elevation gain over 190 km. And if you consider that the first 35 km are relatively flat, the difficulty of the stage becomes even more evident.
Two towns that are just over 30 km apart from each other, from the sea at Marotta to the first inland area of Mombaroccio, for a route that will be characterized by brutal climbs and descents without a single meter of flat terrain. The design of this stage, created by the friends of the Polisportiva Alighiero Omicioli of Saltara, is truly exhilarating: the "first time" of the Pesaro climbs promises to be remembered for a long time.
Add to this that the last five climbs will be repeated twice within a 22 km circuit, shake it all together and you'll have an explosive stage. Are we going out on a limb? We are: if Mathieu Van der Poel decides to use this stage as a dress rehearsal for Sanremo or the Tour of Flanders, he could literally cause havoc.
Are we exaggerating? Take a careful look at the table we report below and... prepare popcorn and chips: the Pesaro climbs truly promise a super spectacle
