The route for the 117th edition of the Milan-Sanremo presented by Crédit Agricole has been revealed, scheduled for March 21. Pavia confirmed as the starting point, with the finish on Via Roma in Sanremo after 298 km, nine kilometers more than the 2025 edition. The finale remains unchanged, with the sequential passage of the three Capes, the Cipressa, and the climb to the Poggio, with the summit 5.6 km from the finish line.
In addition to being the starting point, Pavia will also host the team presentation on March 20, with the event taking place in Piazza Vittoria from 5 PM. RTL 102.5 will be the official radio of the event and will provide comprehensive coverage of the race with its reporters.
Paolo Bellino, CEO and General Director of RCS Sports & Events: "The Milan-Sanremo, beyond its globally recognized sporting value, once again represents an extraordinary opportunity to promote the territories it passes through. The television broadcast, distributed worldwide, is a unique showcase, with spectacular images that unite history, landscape, and great cycling, from the Lombard plains to the Ligurian Riviera. Comprehensive media coverage generates significant returns in terms of image and tourist appeal, and the rest is taken care of by the spectacle of the champions who every year honor their commitment, delivering unique emotions to fans following the event from home and on the roads."
Alessandro Mager, Mayor of Sanremo, and Alessandro Sindoni, Assessor for Tourism and Sports of the Municipality of Sanremo: "While the 76th Italian Song Festival is taking place these days, Sanremo is already preparing for the upcoming events that will see it as the protagonist. Indeed, there is great anticipation for the Milan-Sanremo scheduled for Saturday, March 21, which will bring our territory to the forefront of world cycling. Sanremo and the world of bicycles boast a historic and indissoluble bond, in which sport and tourism unite in an ideal combination. Our roads, especially that of the Poggio where the outcome of the race has often been decided, have been the stage for the challenges of the greatest champions of various eras. The name of Sanremo, therefore, has always been a point of reference in cycling thanks to the Classicissima, considered in all respects the Spring World Championship."
Michele Lissia, Mayor of Pavia: "In 2026 as well, the Milan-Sanremo will start from Pavia. We have chosen to ensure continuity with this route through an agreement that will guarantee the start from our city for the next two editions as well. For Pavia it is a source of pride to welcome the strongest riders in the world: to all of them goes our best wishes. Among the protagonists will also be Tadej Pogačar: it will be interesting to see if he can conquer this Monument Classic, which is missing from his extraordinary palmares. For our city it is a major sporting event and an international showcase at the same time. We are investing with conviction in sport as an opportunity for community and social aggregation, bringing Pavia into the spotlight of world sport."
Giovanni Palli, President of the Province of Pavia: "2026 marks a historic turning point for the Province of Pavia. With the start of the Milan-Sanremo from Pavia, the Voghera-Milan stage of the Giro d'Italia, and the major finish of the Giro d'Italia Women in Salice Terme, our territory becomes, for the first time, a unified protagonist of major international cycling. We are not talking about individual events, but about a vision that has been built and coordinated: three appointments of the highest level that cross cities, hills, and communities, telling the world about a province capable of bringing together history, landscape, hospitality, and quality of life. From monumental Pavia to the centrality of Voghera, to the thermal and hilly identity of the Oltrepò Pavese, cycling becomes a universal language to make our identity immediately legible. It is sport, certainly, but it is also economy, tourism, and territorial promotion. It is proof that the Province of Pavia can be a credible stage for major international events and, at the same time, a destination to experience. 2026 will be remembered as the year in which our territory told itself to the world with a single, strong, and recognizable voice."
THE ROUTE OF THE MILAN-SANREMO PRESENTED BY CRÉDIT AGRICOLE
The Milan-Sanremo starts from Pavia and heads north toward Milan to reach the Certosa where it joins the traditional route. It passes through Casteggio and Voghera before a further detour through the territory reaching Rivanazzano and Salice Terme to rejoin the classic route at Tortona and from there follow it to the finish, retracing the road that for more than 110 years has connected Milan with the Ligurian Riviera, passing through Ovada, the Turchino Pass to descend to Genoa-Voltri. It then proceeds westward alongside the sea along the Aurelia state road through Varazze, Savona, Albenga (the Manie climb inserted from 2008 to 2013 is not included) until reaching Imperia. At San Lorenzo al Mare, after the classic sequence of the Capes (Mele, Cervo, and Berta), the two climbs inserted in recent decades are tackled: Cipressa (1982) and Poggio di Sanremo (1961). The Cipressa climbs 5.6 km at 4.1% to lead into the very technical descent that returns to the Aurelia state road.
9 km from the finish, the climb of Poggio di Sanremo begins (3.7 km at less than 4% average gradient with peaks of 8% in the section preceding the summit). The climb features a slightly narrowed roadway and 4 hairpin turns in the first 2 km. The descent is very demanding on asphalt road, narrow in some passages, with a succession of hairpin turns and curves and counter-curves until joining the Aurelia state road. The final part of the descent takes place in the town of Sanremo. Last 2 km on long straightaways on city streets. Notable at 850 m from the finish is a left turn on a roundabout and at 750 m from the finish the final turn that leads onto the final straight of Via Roma, all on asphalt surface.
